Coastal zone engineering

Coastal zone engineering

Coastal zone engineering is concerned with works along the Dutch coast (such as the second Maasvlakte industrial zone), but also with the problems of relative subsidence in low-lying urban agglomerations such as Jakarta and Bangkok. Integrated coastal development is an important concept that is implemented by Dutch throughout the world. Examples are the developments of coastal zones of Dubai, Vietnam and Romania. The concept integrates the demands for space and environmental quality. Several ‘functions’ such as tourism, housing, industry, water management, coastal protection, fisheries, navigation are balanced by applying the concepts behind ‘Integrated Coastal Zone Development’.
