Dutch Water Policy
The focus of the Dutch Water Policy for the 21st century is to make room for the river. Making room for rivers means controlled storage of excess water in reservoirs that are created in urban and rural areas, during periods of high water levels. European Water Policy
In 1997 the european commission has proposed to collect all existing regulations and arrangements on European Water Policy into a framework with a riverbasin as the standard unit for water management. An agreement on this European Water Framework Directive is made in the year 2000 and the directive has to ensure the good quality of surface- and groundwater in Europe for the year 2015.
